Volkswagen Makes AEB Autonomous Braking Standard Feature For All Of Its Vans

German auto manufacturer, Volkswagen has announced that from June 1st 2017, AEB (autonomous emergency braking) will be standard for all vans in its fleet, including the Transporter, Caddy and Crafter models.

AEB is often cited as the most important advancement in car safety since the introduction of the seatbelt, including by safety experts, Thatcham Research.

Safety is always a key concern for van owners so the inclusion of the technology in all of VW’s new vans will come as very welcome news. Safety is particularly important for van fleet operators, who are always looking for ways to keep the costs of van fleet insurance to a minimum.

VW’s Sara Cox had the following to say about the addition of AEB to the company’s range of vans –

“We’re really proud to be the first to fit AEB as standard to all our vans,” “This means safer vehicles on our roads, leading to fewer accidents, lower costs for operators and potentially fewer lives lost: what could be more important?

How does AEB work?

Volkswagen’s AEB technology is designed to help prevent collisions as much as possible by assisting the driver when it comes to breaking. It does this in two ways. Firstly there is the ‘Front Assist’ system. This monitors the behaviour of drivers ahead of your vehicle and provides you with visual and audio warnings. It will also provide breaking assistance if required.

Secondly is ‘City Emergency Braking’, which as the name suggests is designed to provide autonomous braking in city conditions in order to reduce collisions at slow speeds.

The addition of this technology in VW’s range of vans will certainly help to reduce accidents, collisions and insurance claims in future.
