What the Writer Says…
Driving while disqualified is one of the most serious motoring offences you can commit. Under Section 103 of the Road Traffic Act 1988, it is a criminal offence that can carry up to 6 months in prison and a fine of up to 5,000 pounds. The court can also extend your existing ban by 3 to 18 months on top of the original disqualification.
There are four BA codes in total, though BA10 and BA30 are by far the most common. BA10 covers actually driving while disqualified, and BA30 covers attempting to drive while disqualified. Both carry 6 penalty points and stay on your licence for 4 years from the date of offence. BA40 and BA60 are far more serious - they involve causing death or serious injury while disqualified and carry prison sentences of up to 10 years and 4 years respectively.
