What the Writer Says…
MS50 covers motor racing on the highway, contrary to Section 12 of the Road Traffic Act 1988. This offence applies when two or more vehicles race against each other on a public road, or when a single vehicle is driven at speed in a manner the court considers to constitute racing. It is one of the most serious endorsement codes in the MS family.
The penalty range reflects the severity - 3 to 11 points, a fine of up to £2,500, and an obligatory driving ban. The court decides the exact number of points and length of ban based on the circumstances, including speed, road conditions, time of day, and whether other road users were put at risk (GOV.UK, as at March 2026).
