Why Compare Evri Driver Insurance?

  • Standard Policies Leave You Uninsured - Your everyday car policy excludes paid parcel delivery, so your first Evri drop could leave you on the wrong side of the law.
  • Evri Checks Your Cover at Onboarding - Evri verifies that you hold a valid hire and reward policy before you go live.

Prices Vary Between Specialist Brokers

Your round type, vehicle, and delivery area all affect the quote. Clean Green Cars introduces you to specialist brokers so you can compare prices without ringing round for days.

Evri Driver Insurance At A Glance

  • Your hire and reward policy is the legal foundation for every paid Evri parcel drop.
  • Your personal social and domestic car policy almost certainly excludes paid delivery work.
  • Your vehicle, round type, and annual mileage all shape the price a broker may quote you.
  • Fixed rounds and top-up rounds can both be declared on the same policy where the insurer allows.

Do I Need Evri Driver Insurance?

You need specialist hire and reward cover if any of the following apply:

  • Active Evri Driver - you carry Evri parcels on a fixed or flexible round using your own vehicle
  • Standard Policy Holder - your current motor policy is a standard personal or social domestic pleasurable policy
  • Onboarding Stage - Evri has asked you to confirm your H&R cover before activating your round
  • Policy Not Validated - your insurer hasn't confirmed your standard policy covers paid parcel delivery
  • Seasonal or Part-Time - you pick up Evri work during busy periods and need cover that switches on and off

Cover Levels Explained

Pick third party only on an Evri delivery round and a fault claim could leave you out of pocket. Here's what each level of Evri driver insurance could include.

Cover Tip: Your vehicle is your earning tool on every round, so a day off the road is a day without income. Before you settle on third party only, check what a comprehensive quote adds for a fault claim. Confirm the policy carries hire and reward use and not just ordinary business use. More detail on cover types sits on the hire and reward insurance page.

What May Not Be Covered

A single exclusion can mean a routine claim becomes a personal liability. Here's what Evri driver insurance usually may not cover.

Standard Exclusions

  • Delivering Without Hire And Reward Cover - If your policy covers ordinary business use only, your insurer may decline a claim made during a paid Evri delivery run.
  • Undeclared Platforms Or Round Types - Working a top-up round you never told your insurer about could mean a claim on that run is not accepted. Declare every round type up front.
  • Parcels Inside Your Vehicle - Your motor policy covers the vehicle, not the cargo. Loss or damage to Evri parcels in your care needs separate Goods in Transit (GIT) cover.

Important Limitations

  • Higher Compulsory Excess - Your insurer may set a higher compulsory excess for high-mileage courier use. Check your policy schedule before you need to claim.
  • Mileage Or Radius Restrictions - Some policies cap your annual mileage or limit you to a delivery radius. Exceeding a stated limit could affect how your insurer handles a claim.
  • Vehicle Condition Requirements - Your insurer expects your vehicle to be roadworthy at all times. A claim made when your MOT or road tax had lapsed may not be paid.

Cover Extras To Consider

Miss a key add-on and one delivery incident could leave gaps your base Evri policy may not fill. These optional extras could be worth adding.

May be needed if you want protection for the Evri parcels in your care from collection to delivery, subject to policy limits and conditions.

May help cover roadside assistance and recovery costs when your vehicle breaks down mid-round, depending on your policy terms.

May be needed if a fault claim leaves your vehicle off the road and you need to keep earning on your round, subject to policy limits.

May help cover solicitor and court costs if you need to pursue or defend a claim after a non-fault incident, depending on the terms of your cover.

May be needed if your compulsory excess is set high due to courier use and you want to reduce the financial impact of a claim, subject to policy limits and conditions.

What Affects Your Evri Driver Insurance Cost

Declare an incomplete round type and your policy may not be valid when you need it. Here are the key factors that could affect your cost.

Key FactorImpact on Your Price
Annual mileage declaredFull-time Evri rounds cover high mileage. More miles on the road could push your quote up. Declare your mileage honestly, as understating it may affect a claim.
Cover level chosenComprehensive cover costs more than third party only, but protects your vehicle after a fault claim on a high-mileage courier round.
Vehicle type and valueLarger or higher-value vehicles generally cost more to insure. A small hatchback typically prices lower than a large estate used on Evri rounds.
Driver age and experienceYounger drivers could pay more. A clean licence and years of delivery experience may help bring your quote down over time.
Claims and convictions historyRecent fault claims or motoring convictions could raise your price. A clean record over several years is one of the strongest factors working in your favour.
Round type and delivery areaDense urban delivery areas and high-crime postcodes may push the premium up compared with quieter rural rounds.
No-claims historyA clean no-claims record built on a previous courier or personal policy may be recognised by some specialist brokers.
Voluntary excess levelRaising your voluntary excess could lower your premium, but make sure you can afford to pay it if you need to claim.

Price Insight: Declaring your round type honestly from the start usually does more to protect your price than any other single step. A top-up round you add later without telling your broker could cause problems at claim time.

Your quote depends on the details you declare, so accurate information gives you the most useful comparison.

How To Pay Less For Evri Driver Insurance

1

Declare Your Round Type Up Front

Fixed and top-up rounds both need to be declared. Getting this right at quote stage avoids a costly mid-term rewrite later.

2

Match Mileage To Your Real Round

Your mileage feeds directly into your quote. A part-time Evri driver should not pay a full-time rate, but never understate it.

3

Keep Your Vehicle Roadworthy

A well-maintained vehicle with a current MOT can help you avoid disputes over pre-existing damage if you need to claim.

4

Build Your No-Claims Record

Each claim-free year adds a discount that matters on high-mileage courier cover. Some brokers offer no-claims protection as an add-on.

5

Ask About Telematics Policies

Some specialist brokers offer black-box or telematics policies for courier drivers. Safe driving data could bring your renewal price down.

6

Compare At Renewal

What Our Expert Says

Evri is the UK's largest parcel network, with around 65,000 self-employed couriers as at 2024. The recurring mistake is a driver starting rounds on a standard social policy, assuming that ordinary business use will stretch to cover paid deliveries. It doesn't. Sections 143 and 145 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 require a hire and reward policy whenever you carry goods for payment, and a standard policy puts the first drop on the wrong side of that line.

Evri checks your insurance at onboarding, which is a positive step, but the certificate alone isn't enough. Drivers need to make sure their round type, whether fixed or top-up, is accurately declared so the policy responds if they claim. An undeclared top-up round is a claim waiting to be declined. Full guidance on insurance requirements sits on GOV.UK.

The parcel liability point also catches Evri drivers out. Your motor policy covers the vehicle. It doesn't cover the parcels in your care. Evri states its own limits for parcel liability, but those sit on the platform side. A goods in transit policy is a separate decision every courier should consider before taking high-value loads.

Common Evri Driver Insurance Questions

Do Evri Drivers Need Hire And Reward Insurance?

Yes. Evri drivers carry parcels for payment, which makes hire and reward cover a legal requirement. A standard social or business-use policy may not cover your Evri runs.

Does Evri Provide Insurance For Its Drivers?

No. Evri drivers are self-employed contractors responsible for arranging their own hire and reward motor insurance. Evri checks your cover at onboarding but doesn't provide it.

What Is The Difference Between A Fixed And Top-Up Evri Round?

A fixed round covers the same postcodes each day. A top-up round adds extra deliveries when volumes are high. Both need to be declared on your hire and reward policy.

Can I Use My Personal Car Policy For Evri Deliveries?

No. Standard personal policies exclude carrying goods for payment. Using one for Evri work could mean you are driving uninsured, even if you have a valid certificate for personal use.

Does My Evri Insurance Cover The Parcels I Carry?

No. Your motor policy covers your vehicle, not the cargo inside it. Protecting Evri parcels in your care needs separate Goods in Transit cover as an add-on.

How Much Does Evri Driver Insurance Cost?

Prices depend on your vehicle, annual mileage, cover level, and claims history. Comparing quotes from specialist brokers who cover Evri drivers is the only way to see your price.

Can I Get Evri Insurance With Points On My Licence?

It may still be possible to find hire and reward cover with penalty points, though your options and pricing will depend on the type and number of points. A specialist broker can check which markets may accept your application. See the courier insurance hub for more detail.

What Happens After I Submit My Details?

Your details go to specialist brokers who match your cover needs. You may be contacted by phone or email with quote options.
