Motorhome Jargon Buster

When purchasing a new motorhome it’s very useful to know what the different terms used actually mean so you can make an informed decision. Below are some of the most common motorhome terms explained.

Body Types

Low profile (LP)

LP motorhomes are very popular with couples and the fact that there’s no bed over the cab means they’re more aerodynamic.

Rising roof (RR)

RR motorhomes are more suitable for casual use during good weather and make excellent all-round vehicles for every day use.

Fixed roof (FR)

Comes with the same benefits as a rising roof motorhome although it’s less popular in comparison.

Dismountable (DM)

This combines a pick up truck with a coachbuilt body and comes with the benefit of being able to remove the body on-site.

Overcab (OC)

This type of build features a transverse double bed that sits over the cab.

High top (HT)

A big benefit of high top motorhomes is that they offer many facilities in a vehicle that’s still suited for everyday use.

A-class (AC)

A-class motorhomes, as the name would suggest, are luxury vehicles that offer many domestic-style luxuries and accommodation.

Bases

AK

Al-Ko chassis. This offers a significantly lower overall height and also comes with the benefit of independent suspension.

PV

A panel van that includes double glazing fitted by the converter.

WV

Window van that usually has factor-fitted, single-glazed windows

CB

Chassis cab.

CA

Camper chassis. Fiat Ducato and Peugeot Boxer are two well known examples of this.

PC

Platform cab chassis. The motorhome body is built on flat steel floor.

CC
