How You Got a UT50 Conviction Code
If you have been convicted of aggravated taking of a vehicle i.e a UT50 driving offence, you will incur an endorsement on your driving licence. Consequently, you will find obtaining a competitive insurance quote difficult. Many UK car insurance companies will refuse to quote for drivers with a UT50 conviction.
We appreciate everyone makes mistakes. The reason for a UT50 endorsement vary from borrowing a family car without permission to theft, dangerous driving and the resultant damage. At the end of the day, the time will come when you need to be back on the road and this is where we can help.

What the Writer Says…
UT50 is the DVLA endorsement code for aggravated taking of a vehicle. It is charged under Section 12A of the Theft Act 1968 and is significantly more serious than basic vehicle taking (UT40). The offence requires two elements: taking a vehicle without consent, and then one of four aggravating factors - dangerous driving, causing injury, causing damage to other property, or causing damage to the vehicle taken.
The penalty range is wide. A UT50 can carry between 3 and 11 points, an unlimited fine, and up to 2 years in prison. A driving ban is discretionary. The endorsement stays on your licence for 4 years from the date of conviction. Crucially, UT50 is a criminal offence - unlike most motoring endorsements, it creates a criminal record (GOV.UK, as at March 2026).
